Fundación MAPFRE: Over 400 scholarships granted to train intensive care staff in Argentina
It is also donating funds for medical supplies and healthcare equipment with a view to reinforcing preventive measures in the fight against COVID-19.
Fundación MAPFRE has earmarked new funds to purchase medical and healthcare equipment in Argentina, as well as to support the training of staff who are helping to mitigate the high demand on the country’s Intensive Care Units in the fight against COVID-19.
Thanks to Fundación MAPRE’s latest contribution, the Argentinian non-profit organization Fundación Trauma was able to grant 409 scholarships for its PARES course (Preparación para el Aumento de la Respuesta del Equipo de Salud — Preparation for Increased Medical Response) to train staff who don’t usually work in intensive care so they can look after critical COVID-19 patients. The idea is that they will be able to support the intensive care staff at the forefront of critical patient care in a context of high ICU occupancy in the country.
The course has received scientific endorsement from the Sociedad Argentina de Terapia Intensiva and the Academia Nacional de Medicina (the country’s intensive care society and national academy of medicine, respectively) and scholarships are awarded in coordination with the national Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires, the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the corresponding local healthcare authorities.
All of these contributions have been channeled through COAS (Cooperadora de Acción Social — an Argentinian social action cooperative).
The donations are part of Fundación MAPFRE’s global plan to help tackle COVID-19, which has a global budget of 35 million euros. Total aid in Argentina currently amounts to 300,000 euros since the start of the pandemic.
