Fundación MAPFRE donates medical equipment to three hospitals in Puerto Rico
In recent months, medical staff at the Puerto Rico Medical Center, the Trauma Hospital at the Puerto Rico Administración de Servicios Médicos (ASEM — medical services center) and the Centro Cardiovascular de Puerto Rico y el Caribe (CCPRC — cardiovascular center of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean) have received masks, anti-COVID-19 protective clothing, transparent face shields, gloves, and gowns to combat the disease.
Specifically in recent weeks, Fundación MAPFRE has donated 20,000 FDA surgical masks and 4,000 face shields to ASEM medical staff and the Puerto Rico Medical Center.
This donation, valued at 597,000 euros, is also intended to purchase respirators and conduct PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) diagnostic tests for COVID-19.
Volunteering
In light of the emergency situation caused by coronavirus, Fundación MAPFRE activated an emergency aid plan at the beginning of March, which includes numerous initiatives to support various sectors of society and to tackle the crisis.
Of these initiatives, the most notable also include various online volunteering activities to help children who are being permanently sheltered in different homes supported by the company, as well as a campaign under the hashtag #FM_Contigo (#FM_WithYou), to offer advice on how to protect yourself from COVID-19 and positive messages that help promote mental health through social networks.
More united than ever
“All entities are being called to action to tackle COVID-19. Here in Puerto Rico, we saw an urgent need to protect medical professionals, who are on the front lines in the fight against this virus every day. That’s why we have donated medical supplies, so that they can continue with their admirable work,” said Alexis Sánchez, CEO and President of MAPFRE Puerto Rico.
