We see opportunities in the markets, but also many risks and uncertainty

“There are opportunities in the current market situation, there, especially in alternative investments, but we must be aware that we are still in the middle of the storm, and we will probably continue to face high risk until 2021.” This is one of the reflections made by José Luis Jiménez, Chief Investment Officer of MAPFRE, at the “Managing assets for insurers” conference organized by the Financial Times.

The second wave: a threat to the Union

Beyond the renewed pessimism about the health situation, the ghosts of a lacking coordinated response are once again appearing in the midst of the second wave of the pandemic. Gonzalo de Cadenas-Santiago, director of macroeconomic and financial analysis at MAPFRE Economics, believes that governments could start looking for responsibilities in neighboring countries, especially when some economies are doing better than others.
