MAPFRE has been ranked for yet another year among the world’s leading companies in sustainability. It has been included for the third consecutive year in the Sustainability Yearbook 2022, a prestigious annual publication by S&P Global that selects the most responsible companies for society and the planet.

To be included as a member of the Yearbook, companies must achieve a score that is 15% higher in sustainability performance than the rest of the industry, as well as achieve results that are at the same level as the top 30% of companies in their industry in terms of environmental, social and governance performance.

In its 18th edition, S&P analyzed a total of 7,558 companies in 61 sectors. Among the companies selected are 23 Spanish companies, of which MAPFRE is the only insurer. This shows the international recognition of the efforts made by the multinational in recent years in its sustainability strategy.

Decarbonization and diversity

S&P Global, an entity specialized in publishing reports and analysis on financial research, focuses this year’s work on how companies are rapidly adapting to changes, including the transition to a low-carbon economydiversitylabor conditions and biodiversity protection, among other challenges.

It also highlights the insurance industry’s “leadership” in “integrating sustainability into its business.” In this regard, it also highlights the industry’s interest in incorporating this variable when creating new insurance solutions; including climate change and cybersecurity in risk assessment; promoting digitalization as a way to achieve greater transparency and consumer choice; and promoting technology to develop more innovative and personalized products and services, as well as those aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles.

Good practices

“We want to congratulate MAPFRE for earning a place in the Sustainability Yearbook 2022. With more than 7,000 companies evaluated, its inclusion in the yearbook underscores the company’s dedication to implementing good sustainable business practices,” said Manjit Jus, international head of ESG Research of S&P Global.
