  • MAPFRE has honored the company for its ongoing dedication to inclusion and diversity, and for its key role in the digital transformation.
  • The award was presented at the 5th Forum organized by the MAPFRE Sustainable Finance Observatory, where business leaders, academics, and financial experts met recently to discuss the effects of investments focused on social inclusion.

MAPFRE gave its 2024 Responsible Inclusion Award (MIR) to Capgemini in recognition of its commitment to including people with disabilities and its specialized policies in this area. MAPFRE highlighted Capgemini as a “Leader” based on its annual survey of companies within the MAPFRE AM Responsible Inclusion Fund portfolio, an investment fund supporting firms dedicated to inclusive employment practices for people with disabilities.

At the meeting, Elena Sanz, CEO of MAPFRE Iberia, reiterated on behalf of the company her condolences to the families of the victims and her solidarity with all those affected by the flash floods in Valencia. She also outlined the plan deployed by MAPFRE immediately after the tragedy occurred: “At MAPFRE, people always come first. With the objective of helping our clients, we have rolled out an intense action plan in the area to deal with emergencies and assist in the management of compensation settlements. Thinking about people in this way is what drives us to put the emphasis of our Sustainability Plan on the social dimension, as something that is a priority and differentiating element for MAPFRE,” she added.

The award jury noted Capgemini’s significant progress in inclusion for people with disabilities. The company has established an Employee Resource Group (ERG) called CapAbility, run locally by volunteers to foster an inclusive workplace for people of all abilities, both visible and invisible. Capgemini has also recently launched NeuroAbility, a subgroup focused on supporting neurodivergent employees. Capgemini actively seeks to increase disability representation throughout its workforce through direct hiring, subcontracting, and encouraging self-disclosure. As of 2023, the global representation of employees officially recognized as having a disability, impairment, or neurodivergence has risen by 53% compared to 2020.

Upon receiving the MIR award, Capgemini Spain CEO Luis Abad stated: “I dedicate this award to all those affected by the terrible floods in Valencia and to all the volunteers who, through their generosity and dedication, are providing much-needed support to countless thousands of people. Their exemplary commitment reminds us that responsible inclusion is not just a value to espouse, but a shared responsibility to make good on. At Capgemini, we assume this responsibility as part of our values, based on the commitment to build a more just and inclusive society, using the power of innovation and technology to have a real and positive impact on people.”

Capgemini is also a signatory of the “Valuable 500” and the ILO’s “Global Disability Network” initiatives, as well as the European Charter for Equal Opportunities, reinforcing its commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities. These commitments and strategies are outlined in the Group’s annual report and, as of January, have been formalized within its specific “Diversity and Inclusion” policy.

These excellent achievements affirm Capgemini’s role as a key leader in digital transformation, as well as a steadfast advocate for inclusion and diversity.

MIR 2024 recognition

The MAPFRE Inclusión Responsable Recognition was also presented during the Forum, which represents a way for the investors in the MAPFRE Inclusión Responsable mutual fund to acknowledge not-for-profit organizations that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to people with disabilities. This year’s recognition went to Fundación Obra San Martín.

Founded in Cantabria in 1946 and declared an entity of public interest, Fundación Obra San Martín is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the comprehensive care of people with disabilities, with a special focus on intellectual disabilities. Its mission is to enhance quality of life and promote social inclusion for this community through diverse services in education, employment, housing, and specialized support.

The Forum also featured two roundtable discussions, which gave the business leaders, academics, and other experts in attendance a chance to share their views regarding the impact that financial institutions can have on the social aspects of sustainability, and regarding the effects that investing to promote inclusion can have on society.

Now in its 5th edition, the Forum was created by the MAPFRE Sustainable Finance Observatory as a way to bring together top academic institutions, and to encourage development of financial instruments, insurance policies, and pension products that comply with criteria on socially responsible investment.

Commitment to diversity and inclusion

As part of its Strategic Sustainability Plan 2022-2024, under the concept of #PlayingOurPart, MAPFRE is committed to bridging the social gaps that keep us apart, by developing the individual talents of all people, promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion, and eliminating any existing barriers based on age, cultural background, gender, or sexual orientation. As part of this commitment, the insurance company has an objective to increase its proportion of employees with disabilities to 3.5%, and to promote inclusion in the workplace through its MAPFRE Inclusión Responsable mutual fund.

Further reinforcing its commitment to inclusion, MAPFRE actively participates in the Fundación SERES Diversity Labs and adheres to the Standards of Conduct for Businesses on LGBTI issues. The company has also signed the Generational Diversity Code of Principles from the Generation and Talent Observatory and regularly participates in studies and roundtables addressing the quality of life and well-being of people.
